The Barn Quilt at the Display Garden…its final evolution

Although the Barn quilt had been initially sealed and re-sealed at least twice a year, it began to show stress and water damage. During 2019 the deterioration increased and I removed it for repairs.

During the same time period, a fellow Master Gardener, Linda Bohlen noticed the damaged Barn Quilt had been removed. Linda is a member of a local Quilting Guild and they were involved in a regional Quilt Show held at the Event Center in Evansville. One of the venders for the show was Casey Valiant, President of Signarama. Casey had been searching for a barn quilt his business could replicate and display at the show. Linda proposed that he use my barn quilt design and the donate the finished piece to SWIMGA. With Kay Haller’s (MGDG Chair) approval, I presented a 2X2 replica of the 4X4 to Signarama to copy.

My barn quilt design was reproduced by an artist using a computerized laser printer/painter. It was powder coated painted on a 4X4 aluminum sheet. It will never fade, rust or breakdown. After the Evansville Quilt Show, Casey donated the barn quilt to the Display Garden. I added cedar strips glued to the back and holes for the bolts. Tod Bischoff and I installed it back to its original location on the cabin. I added a small sign recognizing Signarama as the donor. Now you know the Barn Quilt Story.
