Joan David

Bronze Master Gardener

Joan David
Bronze Master Gardener

Joan David has a brand-new interest ~ a greenhouse which was a gift from her sons, Geoffrey and Michael, celebrating her birthday/Christmas and her retirement in December 2012.  The greenhouse was purchased for her from Palram Applications Ltd. (www.palramapplications.com).   The greenhouse is their basic kit of 6′ x 8′ plus a 4′ extension, a total of 6′ x 12′.  Joan had a foundation poured and then two rows of brick upon that foundation.  The greenhouse is bolted into the foundation and put together like an erector set.  Each piece is numbered, down to the nuts and bolts.  The floor is simply wood chips on top of the soil.  Joan and her family enjoyed the process and it was fun to see an affordable greenhouse and one that even a Master Gardener with a smaller yard could fit into their landscape.   The greenhouse is made of polycarbonate, with a steel base and frame made of aluminum.   Joan added two automatic air vents, a planting table and a few shelves were purchased in addition to the kit.   If any section is damaged, it can be replaced easily.  The greenhouse is extremely durable.  A step to enter the greenhouse still has to be added.  Joan is anxious to start on her seed flats.

Joan’s home is beautifully landscaped and will be a joy visiting it in the future.  Snowdrops and daffodils were beginning to bloom and a beautiful iron flower was made by her friend, Julie Bryzinski, a local artist.
