Meet Susan Cooper: Steward of SWIMGA’s Little Free Library
A few years ago, SWIMGA member Susan Cooper installed a Little Free Library in the front yard of her home. It’s now a neighborhood fixture.
She was taking the Master Gardening class when a Little Free Library (LFL) was installed in the Peace Garden at SWIMGA’s Display Garden. “I knew it would be more successful if it had a steward,” she said. When she went to the board and offered her services, the members accepted.
As the LFL steward, she checks in at least once a week to restock the unit. That can mean adding as many as 15 books, including the desirable genres of children’s books and gardening books.”
“I was asked by the board to stock inspirational books to serve people who come to visit the Peace Garden.” Cooper said. “Demand for this type of material is high. I’ve stocked books on death and dying, grief, mental illness, recovery from addiction and abuse, meditation, devotionals and self-help.”
If someone wants to add a book or two to the library, they are welcome to do so. If they want to make a larger donation of books, Susan’s contact information is in SWIMGA’s directory.
She wants to thank “everyone who has helped make the library in the garden a success!”
