“2020: The Year of Challenges” by MG Intern Advisor Kathy Kellems

Our world has seen more changes than most of us could possibly fathom. SWIMGA has managed to continue their mission in spite of the challenges. So many members have stepped up to make adjustments as necessary.

Just a few things we have accomplished:

  • We started an exciting new project headed by Gina and James Downs. We are refurbishing the Children’s Milestone Garden for Easter Seals.
  • When gatherings were limited, we managed to have a profitable Plant Sale.
  • Our Display Garden was the back drop for some beautiful weddings, great education sessions, and some Intern Outings.
  • Many of us adapted to long distance learning through Zoom meetings and Pod Casts.
  • With lots of help from our 2020 Intern Representatives, Tom Coe and Diane Mason, we have launched our Intern Mentor Program.
  • Visitors to Evansville Regional Airport are welcomed by the beautiful SWIMGA Christmas Tree.

What do we have to look forward to in 2021?

  • Welcoming a new Intern Class.
  • Meeting our new Purdue Extension Agent. We are appreciative of Hans, Amanda, and Meagan’s support during this time of transition.
  • Watching our community gardens grow better than ever.
  • A successful Plant Sale in one form or another.
  • An exciting Garden Walk with a plethora of gardens in the east and the west.

I have every confidence in the world that SWIMGA will thrive in 2021.
